The competition is organized and endorsed by Illinois Network of Charter Schools, OAPCS (Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools and Ohio Coalition for Quality Charter Schools and Concept Schools-a nonprofit charter schools management organization.

This online math competition is an outstanding way to inspire our charter school students by engaging them with an extracurricular academic activity outside the regular math class and is an excellent opportunity for our students to exercise their love and talent for mathematics in a setting of their fellow peers. For the teachers, MathCON is an opportunity to celebrate their work and network with other teachers within their subject areas.

Through the preparations, practice, and competition for MathCON, students will be motivated to improve their fluency, accuracy. They will also be challenged with questions that require ingenuity and insight, but little technical knowledge beyond grade level mathematics, adding to student buy-in and accessibility the online test includes problems of varying degrees of difficulty enabling all students to be equally challenged and engaged.

Both Individuals and school or class-level teams from the Illinois and Ohio charter schools are all eligible to compete in the Online MathCon competition. The tests are grade-level specific and cast a wide net of possible participants. Each of the tests will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions.

The online test will be administered between Monday March 18, 2013 and March 22, 2013. The grade levels of competition are:

  • 5th grade
  • 6th grade
  • 7th grade
  • 8th grade
  • 9th grade
  • 10th grade
  • 11th grade
  • 12th grade

The top three students from each grade level group will then be invited to the Chicago area for a final round on April 20, 2013 to represent their schools.

The final will take place at Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights, IL (2121 South Goebbert Road). The finalists will be given a multiple choice test at their level and compete to become MathCON’s state math champions for charter schools. Finally, prizes will be given to the winners at each grade level.

Once again, MathCON, presented by Concept Schools, is an excellent and rewarding opportunity for your schools’ proud math students and esteemed math teachers to show and celebrate their talent. All involved also have the opportunity to celebrate their successes, the good things they are doing, and the positive growth.

We cordially invite you and your school to be a part of this exciting, fun, and fulfilling contest.
